History
In 2017, Viivi took on the exciting venture of creating the Northernlight Guesthouse. Her goal was to turn the house into a welcoming and cozy home for guests from all walks of life.
What sets this guesthouse apart is Viivi’s dedication to sustainability. She made a conscious effort to use recycled materials for 80% of the renovations, showcasing her commitment to a more eco-friendly lifestyle. By doing so, Viivi not only transformed the space but also minimized the environmental footprint of the guesthouse.
By staying here, guests not only have a comfy time but also help make the world a better place. The guesthouse is like a peaceful retreat where people can chill and feel good, knowing they’re being kind to the environment. It’s not just a place to stay; it’s a place where being mindful and comfortable go hand in hand.

Sustainability values
At Northernlight guesthouse, Viivi really cares about being eco-friendly in everything she does. Whether it’s what she buys or how she goes about her day, she wants to make choices that are good for the environment. Viivi prefers things that last a long time instead of things that get thrown away quickly. She also makes sure the products she buys are made by local farms or companies. Viivi brings these sustainable values into her everyday life, trying to be more responsible and thoughtful in how she consumes things.
Sport
Having a regular physical activity is beneficial for health. Moving your body helps your brain release endorphins so it reduces stress, anxiety, and improves general mood.
Being at northernlight guesthouse offers lots of physical opportunities as walking, skating or even just snow working 8
Food
Eating food sustainably means making choices that are good for the environment and for future generations.
At northernlight guesthouse Viivi tries her best to use her own ingredients as berries or eggs in her dishes. And all leftovers are food for the farm animals or thrown into the compost pile.
Sleep
Sleep is vital to our productivity and motivation at work, especially in cold countries like Finland.
At northernlight guesthouse, we put your sleep first. Did you know that the average adult should sleep between 7 and 10 hours a night. And the average child should sleep between 9 and 12 hours a night.
Material sustainability
In today’s world, where new technology is a big deal, taking care of things for the long run is essential.
Material sustainability is using resources responsibly and efficiently to make sure they last.
Sustainable choices
As the environmental crisis is growing, making sustainable choices is now a big part of our everyday decisions.
Whether it’s what we buy or use, the choices we make have a big impact.
Single task or multistasking
Approaching tasks with a focus on efficiency rather than succumbing to multitasking not only proves to be a sustainable practice but also contributes to a more balanced and mindful use of time.
